When she had to meet some necessary expenses. She has to spend a sleepless night. ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਖਰਚੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਕਰਨੇ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਂਦ ਨਾ ਕੱਟਣੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

She wishes that her husband respects her dignity. ਉਹ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਦਾ ਆਦਰ ਕਰੇ।

Her husband has to do a job as a head clerk in the war office. ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਜੰਗੀ ਦਫ਼ਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈੱਡ ਕਲਰਕ ਦੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈ।

When the umbrella burned, she used very bitter words against her husband. ਜਦੋਂ ਛੱਤਰੀ ਸੜ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਬਹੁਤ ਕੌੜੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੋਲੇ।

Which made them realise the reality of blind people on the earth. ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ‘ਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ।

And also taught them how difficult it is to survive in real life for the blind people. ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਸਿਖਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਅਸਲ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਉਣਾ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

On the blind day the eyes of the students were bandaged. ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਦਿਵਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਪੱਟੀਆਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ।

By this experience the child realised what a misfortune it was to be blind in life. ਇਸ ਤਜਰਬੇ ਤੋਂ ਬੱਚੇ ਨੂੰ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਕਿੰਨੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਬਦਕਿਸਮਤੀ ਹੈ।

As in the same way all students have to go through the training of deaf, dumb and lame in the school time. ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਕੂਲ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੋਲ਼ੇ, ਗੂੰਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਗੜੇ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The purpose of such days was to make the childrens develop sympathy for the suffering humanity. ਅਜਿਹੇ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਖੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਹਮਦਰਦੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ।

This chapter is based on the nervousness of the author when he goes to the bank for the first time. ਇਹ ਅਧਿਆਇ ਲੇਖਕ ਦੀ ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ‘ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਬੈਂਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

So this essay is full of humour from beginning to the end. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਲੇਖ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਤ ਤੱਕ ਹਾਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ।

The chapter describes the behaviour of the narrator’s behaviour in the bank. ਅਧਿਆਇ ਬੈਂਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਰਣਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

As I intend to keep all my money in the bank. ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਬੈਂਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਇਰਾਦਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।

So the Bank Manager thinks that He is a very rich man. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬੈਂਕ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਮੀਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਹੈ।

But when the bank manager met him and came to know that the man had only fifty six dollars. ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਬੈਂਕ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਕੋਲ ਸਿਰਫ ਛੇ ਛੇ ਡਾਲਰ ਸਨ।

Then he feels irritated. ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਚਿੜਚਿੜਾ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। Theme of my financial career

The Bank Manager instructed him to go out to the accountant. ਬੈਂਕ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਅਕਾਊਂਟੈਂਟ ਕੋਲ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ।

In his nervousness, the narrator deposits all the fifty six dollars in the bank. ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ਵਿੱਚ, ਕਥਾਵਾਚਕ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਛੱਬੀ ਡਾਲਰ ਬੈਂਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਮ੍ਹਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।

But he needs six dollars for his present use. ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਲਈ ਛੇ ਡਾਲਰ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ।

So He writes out a check to draw the money. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਪੈਸੇ ਕੱਢਣ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਚੈੱਕ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

But during the writing six dollars he writes fifty six dollars, instead of six dollars. ਪਰ ਛੇ ਡਾਲਰ ਲਿਖਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਛੇ ਡਾਲਰ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਹ ਡਾਲਰ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

So the clerk looks at him in a wonderful way. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਲਰਕ ਉਸ ਵੱਲ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

He asks him how he will have the money. ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਪੈਸੇ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋਣਗੇ?

But the narrator replied promptly without deep thinking, “In Fifty” and Six. ਪਰ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸੋਚੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਪੰਜਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ” ਅਤੇ ਛੇ।

Then he takes the money and rushes out of the bank. ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਪੈਸੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬੈਂਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ।

All the clerks laugh at his back. ਸਾਰੇ ਕਲਰਕ ਉਸਦੀ ਪਿੱਠ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਸ ਪਏ।

And readers also laugh to themselves as this chapter finishes. ਅਤੇ ਪਾਠਕ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਅਧਿਆਇ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਪਤ ਹੋਣ ‘ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।

The narrator would like to see the manager alone. So he invited him to meet. ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤਕਾਰ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਦੇਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ।

The manager thinks that the narrator had some particular secret to reveal. ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤਕਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਖਾਸ ਰਾਜ਼ ਸੀ।

So he took him to a private room. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ।

He said, I have come to open an account. ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਮੈਂ ਖਾਤਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ।

Because I wanted to keep all my money in this bank. ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਪੈਸਾ ਇਸ ਬੈਂਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।

Now the manager thinks that the narrator was a very rich man. ਹੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਸੋਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਥਾਵਾਚਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਮੀਰ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੀ।

The narrator had come to the bank to deposit a large sum. ਬਿਆਨਕਰਤਾ ਮੋਟੀ ਰਕਮ ਜਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਬੈਂਕ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ।

But when the manager came to know that the narrator had only fifty six dollars to deposit. ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਕਿ ਕਥਾਵਾਚਕ ਕੋਲ ਜਮ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਿਰਫ਼ 56 ਡਾਲਰ ਸਨ।

Then the manager became very irritated. ਫਿਰ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਚਿੜ ਗਿਆ।

He got up promptly angry and opened the door. ਉਹ ਇਕਦਮ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਿਆ।

The manager spoke unkindly to the narrator. ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਨੇ ਕਥਾਵਾਚਕ ਨਾਲ ਬੇਰੁੱਖੀ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ।

The manager instructed the narrator to go to the accountant. ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਨੇ ਕਹਾਣੀਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੇਖਾਕਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਹਦਾਇਤ ਕੀਤੀ।

A bog iron door stood open at one side of the room. ਕਮਰੇ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੋਹੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹਾ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ।

The narrator came into it. ਕਥਾਵਾਚਕ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ।

But it was the safest place for cash to the bank. ਪਰ ਇਹ ਬੈਂਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਕਦੀ ਲਈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਸੀ।

Come out, Come out, said the manager roughly. ਬਾਹਰ ਆ, ਬਾਹਰ ਆ, ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਨੇ ਮੋਟੇ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ।

He showed the narrator the other way to the accountant. ਉਸਨੇ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੇਖਾਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਰਸਤਾ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ।

Such was the narrator’s meeting with the Bank manager. ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਕਥਾਵਾਚਕ ਦੀ ਬੈਂਕ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤ ਸੀ।

They go from place to place and sing songs of bravery of their ancestors. ਉਹ ਥਾਂ-ਥਾਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

They belonged to the Rathore clan. ਉਹ ਰਾਠੌਰ ਕਬੀਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਸਨ।
