1. Prabhat is the hero of the story. ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਇਕ ਹੈ।

2. His profession is a school teacher. ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੇਸ਼ਾ ਸਕੂਲ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ।

3. He belonged to the high caste. ਉਹ ਉੱਚ ਜਾਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਸੀ।

4. He doesn’t consider the difference between a poor man from the high castes and untouchable. ਉਹ ਉੱਚ ਜਾਤੀ ਦੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਆਦਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਛੂਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ।

5. He finds it very difficult in his life to make both ends meet. ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਸਿਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।

6. That is why he gives tuition to the low caste boy to earn some extra money. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਵਾਧੂ ਪੈਸੇ ਕਮਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤ ਦੇ ਲੜਕੇ ਨੂੰ ਟਿਊਸ਼ਨ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

7. However, he didn’t have any sense of superiority of his upper caste. ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਉੱਚ ਜਾਤੀ ਦੀ ਉੱਤਮਤਾ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।

8. He had to hang his sacred thread round his ear while he went to the latrines. ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਖਾਨੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਧਾਗੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਟਕਾਉਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ।

9. The untouchable also eased themselves on the ground and they wash their hands at the Tons River. ਅਛੂਤ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ‘ਤੇ ਢਾਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਟਨ ਨਦੀ ‘ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਧੋ ਲਏ।

10. He was a poor man, as untouchable. ਉਹ ਅਛੂਤ ਵਾਂਗ ਗਰੀਬ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੀ।

11. He too lived on coarse grain and barley like poor people. ਉਹ ਵੀ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਮੋਟੇ ਅਨਾਜ ਤੇ ਜੌਂ ‘ਤੇ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।

12. People had high expectations from him because he was a Brahmin. ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਉਮੀਦਾਂ ਸਨ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਸੀ।

13. He felt that he should not be a Brahman any more. ਉਸਨੇ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।

14. Thus he earns more money by teaching low caste boys. ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤ ਦੇ ਲੜਕਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾ ਕੇ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਪੈਸਾ ਕਮਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

15. Ram Singh, The headman of the village , was very angry with him. ਪਿੰਡ ਦਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਰਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਾਰਾਜ਼ ਸੀ।

16. So Ram Singh does not approve of Prabhat’s teaching of a low caste boy who was a Prostitute’s son. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਰਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਨੀਵੀਂ ਜਾਤ ਦੇ ਲੜਕੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣਾ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਜੋ ਇੱਕ ਵੇਸਵਾ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ।

17. Ram Singh wanted him to stop teaching Sita Ram. ਰਾਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸੀਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ।

18. However, Prabhat didn’t comply with the wishes of the headman. ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤ ਨੇ ਹੈੱਡਮੈਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ।

19. Even his uncle warned him that teaching to untouchable people may be a dangerous thing. ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਉਸਦੇ ਚਾਚੇ ਨੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਅਛੂਤ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਉਣਾ ਇੱਕ ਖ਼ਤਰਨਾਕ ਗੱਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।

20. High caste boys were interested in wine and women and nothing else. ਉੱਚ ਜਾਤੀ ਦੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿਲਚਸਪੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਸਨ ਹੋਰ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ।

21. The murder of his student brought about a great change in him. ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਲਿਆਂਦੀ।

22. He threw away his sacred thread. ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਧਾਗਾ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

23. Even he had no fear of the Devil’s punishment. ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।

24. He refused to accept the headman’s recommendations of dealing with Sita Ram’s Murder with a customary law. ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੀਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਕਤਲ ਨਾਲ ਨਜਿੱਠਣ ਲਈ ਹੈੱਡਮੈਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਾਰਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੰਪਰਾਗਤ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਨਾਲ ਮੰਨਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

25. He tries to solve this case as per the law of the country. ਉਹ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਸ ਕੇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

26. He became the leader of untouchables. ਉਹ ਅਛੂਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਗੂ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। Character Sketch of Prabhat

27. He gave them suggestions to fight for their rights and work against the tyranny of the upper classes.  ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਲੜਨ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਚ ਵਰਗ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸੁਝਾਅ ਦਿੱਤੇ।

28. He Brought a new dawn in the lives of the untouchables.ਉਸਨੇ ਅਛੂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਨਵੀਂ ਸਵੇਰ ਲਿਆਂਦੀ। Character Sketch of Prabhat
