3. A Taboo is a mystery which is forbidden by custom or religion. ਟਾਬੂ ਇੱਕ ਰਹੱਸ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਰਿਵਾਜ ਜਾਂ ਧਰਮ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਵਰਜਿਤ ਹੈ।

4. So taboo is a custom and tradition which is handed down from generation to generation. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਟਾਬੂ ਇੱਕ ਰੀਤ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਦਰ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਚਲਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

5. So people follow it blindly without paying any ratinationally attention to the basis of tradition.  ਇਸ ਲਈ ਲੋਕ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ‘ਤੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰਕਸੰਗਤ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇਵਾਹ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

6. Thus, it is considered a sinful act to break a taboo. ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਟਾਬੂ ਨੂੰ ਤੋੜਨਾ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਪੀ ਕੰਮ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

7. Thus they think that the divine will punish if one breaks a taboo. ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੋਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਟਾਬੂ ਤੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਰੱਬ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

8. A similar advice is given by the grandfather to odarka.  ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਾਦੇ ਨੇ ਓਦਾਰਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।

9. So she was advised not to eat the fruit of the cherry tree due to the prevailing traditions of the family.  ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਚਲਿਤ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਨਾ ਖਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ।

10. In the village of volyn which is in Russia. ਵੋਲਿਨ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਰੂਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ।

11. The cherry tree was considered sacred there.  ਉੱਥੇ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ।

12. So people in the whole region of such villages do not eat cherry fruit for eight years after the death of the family.  ਇਸ ਲਈ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅੱਠ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਚੈਰੀ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦੇ।

13. Grandfather planted a cherry tree sapling which grew into a tall tree. ਦਾਦਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਲਾਇਆ ਜੋ ਵਧ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਉੱਚਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।

14. But he does not eat cherry trees from this tree.  ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਰੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਂਦਾ।

15. Because he respected the old tradition and observed the taboo. ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਦਾ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਜਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।

16. So odarka also followed the same tradition in her life. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਓਦਾਰਕਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸੇ ਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਕੀਤਾ।

17. Thus on the advice of her grandfather she also planted a cherry tree.  ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਦਾ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ‘ਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਚੈਰੀ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਵੀ ਲਗਾਇਆ।

19. But she didn’t eat the cherry fruit. ਪਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਚੈਰੀ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਧਾ।

20. Nor she didn’t allow her childrens and grandchildren to eat the fruit. ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੋਤੇ-ਪੋਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਖਾਣ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ।

21. However, at last she realised that death in the family could not be kept away by following such taboo. ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੇ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਰਜਿਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

22. Then she rejected the taboo And tasted the cherry and then planted another sapling of cherry.  ਫਿਰ ਉਸਨੇ ਵਰਜਿਤ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਚੈਰੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਚੈਰੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਬੂਟਾ ਲਗਾਇਆ।

23. Now she considered herself that she got rid of the meaningless taboo.  ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਰਥਹੀਣ ਵਰਜਿਤ ਤੋਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
