Write a note on the theme of frustration and hope in the story “The Taboo”.

1.  “The Taboo” story is based on the theme of frustration and hope. “ਦਿ ਟੈਬੂ” ਕਹਾਣੀ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਮੀਦ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ‘ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਹੈ।

2. Odarka is the main character of this story. ਓਦਾਰਕਾ ਇਸ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਪਾਤਰ ਹੈ।

3. Her life is a tale of deaths and suffering. ਉਸਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਮੌਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਹੈ।

4. At the age of seven years Odarka planted a sapling of a cherry tree. ਸੱਤ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਓਡਾਰਕਾ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਬੂਟਾ ਲਾਇਆ।

5. She hoped that she would enjoy and eat the fruits of that tree when it grew up. ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਮੀਦ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਰੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਫਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਖਾਵੇਗੀ।

6. But unfortunately her hope was shattered. ਪਰ ਬਦਕਿਸਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਈ।

7. There was a superstition in her family. ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਧਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਸੀ।

8. It was a kind of taboo. ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਰਜਿਤ ਸੀ। Theme of the story the taboo

9. Family of odarka believed that they must not eat the fruit of the cherry tree for eight years after the death of a family member. ਓਡਾਰਕਾ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅੱਠ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।

10. Thus Odarka hope to enjoy the fruit of the cherry tree was frustrated. ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਓਡਾਰਕਾ ਦੀ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਮਾਯੂਸ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

11. After the death of her grandfather, she did not eat the Cherries for eight years.  ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਦੇ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਸਨੇ ਅੱਠ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਚੈਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾਧੀ।

12. At some intervals, other members of her family also died. ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

13. As one death was linked to another death. ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇੱਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੂਜੀ ਮੌਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ।

14. Odarka grew old, but she could not eat the fruit of the cherry tree.  ਓਦਾਰਕਾ ਬੁੱਢੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਖਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਸੀ।

15. Which tree she herself had planted. ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਰੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਖੁਦ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੀ।

16. However, she ate the fruit only when the tree had been cut down. ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਉਸਨੇ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਫਲ ਖਾਧਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਰੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

17. Odarka was filled with hope. ਓਦਾਰਕਾ ਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

18. When she planted a sapling of a little cherry tree as per the instructions of her grandfather. ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਦਾ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਦਾਇਤਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਲਗਾਇਆ।

19. She wished it would be a happier fate. ਉਸਨੇ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲ ਕਿਸਮਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ.

20. She hoped to eat its fruit. ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਖਾਣ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਸੀ।Theme of the story the taboo

21. But this hope was completed when the cherry tree was cut down. ਪਰ ਇਹ ਉਮੀਦ ਉਦੋਂ ਪੂਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਚੈਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
